Day 29: Hanksville Rest Day

Day 29

June 14, 2015

Miles: 0

Hanksville to Hanksville

No riding today because it is a rest day.  I know, it seems like we take a lot of rest days, but Di and I sprinkle in a few riding days along the way.  We slept until 7:30am, when Di woke me by saying, "Even on our rest days we wake up at 7:30."  At this, and now being awakened, I had to agree.

We performed our typical rest day activities:

          Breakfast:
Two pancakes and two eggs for each of us

          Laundry:
Di loves clean clothes

          Grocery shopping:
Oops, no pictures of the grocery store, which, in Mormon country, is closed on Sundays.

Snapping pictures of the local art scene:

Fence art

T-Rex made of augers (naturally)

We relaxed in our room for most of the day.  We even had our lunch in the room (PB&J sandwiches). We went up to the gas station to buy a loaf of bread and some more peanut butter and jelly, then came back and relaxed in the room again.  Then it was dinner time and we walked across the street to eat a sandwich.  After dinner, we came back to the hotel room to relax.  All in all, it was a very relaxing day.

I would've like to end this blog here and go back to relaxing, but Di insisted I take a picture of the teepees behind the restaurant.  There is a film crew in town to film the remake of the movie Point Blank and their temporary living quarters are the teepees.

Picture of teepees Di forced me to take

After the considerable exertion required to include that last picture, I was really ready to end the blog.  However, Di insisted yet again that I add another picture.  She was impressed by how much stuff was piled onto the roof of a car in our hotel parking lot.  It was nice to see someone carrying more stuff than us, even if they are using a car to do it.

Okay, now I am going back to relaxing.  Tomorrow we ride 50 miles to Lake Powell.  There are no towns between Hanksville and Lake Powell, so we are in for another PB&J day.

We have been told there is no internet or cell service for the next 120 miles, so don't be surprised if there are no blogs or messages from us over the next two days.

  3. I must say I have been a little on edge the last two days as your blog was down. Kept getting that crazy we're sorry message. I've been checking all day and it is finally back up and I've had my daily fix of your adventures. I hope you do have some sort of cell service over the next couple of days. My day is not complete without your blog! Glad you enjoyed your day of rest. Safe travel to Lake Powell.

  4. It's so funny to hear how comfortable you are staying inside of your hotel room, when most people would be hammering to get outside. You live in a 'reverse' world. haha
