Day Trip:                Paw Paw to Cumberland

We stayed at the BikeB&B last night in Paw Paw.  Paw Paw has a population of 506.  It is quite a small town. It has one B&B, one gas station, one restaurant, one bank, and one post office.  Dan and Moxie were our hosts.  Dan is a retired guy and does everything with his dog Moxie.

Dan fixed us a breakfast before he shuttled us to Cumberland - 30 miles away.  This morning was high humidity, but not very hot. It had reached 92 degrees by early afternoon.  The next three days will be between 95-100 per the forecast.

Tomorrow is a planned rest day, and as of this moment, we are unsure how many miles we will ride through this heat wave.

Common area
Dan offered us a 'bed and bath' as he advertises.  Two other guys stayed as well.  A hiker named Ed and a cyclist named David. We did not get pictures of Ed or David, but below is a picture of Dan and Moxie with Steve.

When we arrived in Cumberland, we  immediately checked into our hotel.  A Marriot hotel right where the C&O Canal Trail / Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) collides.

Cumberland is a perfect location and a perfect place for some R&R.

After checking in, I stayed in to rest in the air conditioned room, and Steve wandered out to backtrack along the C&O.  Steve rode 13 miles tooling around the trail.  He said there was much water accumulation due to the thunderstorms yesterday.  You do not see it here, but apparently in different areas.

C&O single path at this point
We would have liked to reach the end of the C&O, and where the Great Allegheny Passage begins by bike, but unfortunately the weather hasn't played in our favor.

GAP (150 miles)
GAP ends in Pittsburgh.

We plan to do more exploring tomorrow.  There are lots of shops and museums to visit.  Steve may go out for a short ride in the morning when the temperature is still in the 80s, but after 12:00p it starts getting hot.  Peak heat temperature is around 3:00p - forecast for tomorrow 95 degrees.

Rest day in Cumberland tomorrow.  To all of you - stay cool tomorrow!
