Day 48: Quebec City, Quebec, Canada
July 30, 2016
Miles: 37
Average Speed: 9.6 mph
Montmagny, QC to Quebec City, Quebec
We are in Quebec City! Wahoo! I feel this is a milestone, because we have long known that family will join us here for a few days. I also feel tired, because it is after 1am and I have been waiting for over three hours for the attached pictures to load. I'd like to say I waited patiently, but I didn't. I wish I knew some more apt expressions to vent my impatience other than "Sacre bleu!".
Let me explain our day. No, there is too much. Let me sum up.
Breakfast. Satisfying. |
Riding on Rt. 132 |
The way to Quebec is that way |
What happens to bad bikes (hey my bike, you listening?) |
Di successfully ordering lunch |
Riding again |
Along the St. Lawrence River |
We found a bike path 10 miles outside of the city |
Di likes the bike path (or likes having her picture taken) |
We came across a scenic rest stop with comfy chairs |
We met a biking couple, Pete and Caitel (sp?) |
View from rest stop. That waterfall is higher than Niagara Falls! |
Di getting comfy at the rest stop |
Children playing in a water sculpture in Levis |
We took the 4:30pm ferry to Quebec City. Once on board the ferry, we met up with Pete and Caitel again and they were extremely helpful to us. The gave us advice on good restaurants, go pubs, and when we alit from the ferry onto Quebec City, gave us directions to our hotel. Pete and Caitel even went so far as to ride to the foot of the street that would take us from lower Quebec to our hotel in the upper part of Quebec. They wisely choose not to ride with us any further because the road was extremely steep and in some places cobbled. It was so steep that tourists took our pictures as we rode! That was a little weird.
We checked into our hotel and by 7pm where ready to explore Quebec City.
Di by the wall |
The streets were very crowded, especially compared to some of the towns we've visited recently |
Guinness at Pub Saint-Alexandre |
Dinner at Pub Saint-Alexandre |
Di's sausage meal was called "The Godfather" |
We split fried ice cream for dessert (butterscotch) |
Buskers |
The street crowd |
Folks enjoying the free outdoor concert |
Thats the sum up. Tomorrow, my mom, sisters and niece Gina will bring home to me and I'm very excited for that.
Was worth the wait Steve! Letting the pics tell the story was really fun to read! You guys packed a lot in one day. Congrats on making it to QC. Art, culture, comfy chairs, waterfall, country roads, city life- what a day! So many people in the city! Love the kids playing in the water sculpture park. Enjoy family and rest now! ❤️
ReplyDeleteYay so excited to see you both and explore the city! I'm glad the weather forecast looks promising for the next four days. Just got our Dunkins and ready to go!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry I haven't commented in a few days, we've been at the Cape with Michelle's Dad, and I can't seem to get my comments to go through on my stupid smart phone. Anyway, Quebec City looks like a great place. Lots of people and great food. Holy Crap, that fried ice cream looks amazing! Have fun with the family and looking forward to seeing pictures of the next few days.
ReplyDeleteIt's almost startling to see all these people in the QC pictures compared to the normal deserted sidewalks! I wonder if you'll manage any lonely diner pics in this city? Enjoy your time with the fam! And congrats on riding all the way to QC- another milestone completed!
ReplyDelete1/2 there! Whoohooo! Just changed drivers and Sandra's at the wheel. That means we're going to lose time now. Lol. Can't wait to spend the next few days with you. See you soon.
