Day 43: Riviere du Loup, Quebec, Canada

Day 43: Riverie du Loup, Quebec, Canada

July 25, 2016

Miles: 47

Cabano, QC to
Riviere du Loup, QC

It was a beautiful morning, so we relaxed before leaving for the day.  We had a lovely breakfast on the balcony this morning.  The continental breakfast menu was limited, but since it was the only place in town serving breakfast, we stayed to enjoy our surroundings and to fuel before we left for the trails.

Spying on Steve

After breakfast, we returned to our room.  Steve finished reading his book, while I looked over the route.  We then packed our bikes and were off to our next destination by 10:30a.

Sitting area in our room

We only had one viable option this morning to get to the Riviere du Loup.  To ride the Petit-Temis Interprovincial Trail.   We were able to catch this trail very near the hotel, and it literally finished right outside downtown Riviere du Loup.  Otherwise, we would have been on dirt roads or highways. Essentially, the trail was a long, well groomed, hard-packed, rock surface.  Really a pleasure to ride on.  Definitely a good choice!

Beginning of day

St. Louis du Ha! Ha! a unique name for a town. Steve just loved this town name.

Into the woods

There were lots of natural, small wonders that we stopped for along the way.

We rode all day on this trail with great success.  However, at the 30 mile mark it started  to rain much earlier than forecasted.  By the 40 mile mark, it was really coming down.  At this point, we were off the trail navigating the green roads through the city to find our motel, which was about 7 miles away. We managed to find the motel without much drama, but by the time we arrived, we were cold and drenched.

Unpleasant weather

We arrived at the motel at 5:10p and made reservation for 6:30p.  We immediately put on the heat when we got in the room, cleaned up fast, then went next door to a wonderful restaurant.  Since we had skipped lunch, we were both famished. Steve enjoyed lasagna and me filet mignon and grilled shrimp.  Food was rated as great!

Tomorrow we are off to La Pocatiere for about 43 miles.  The roads will be flat, but the wind in our faces.  7 mph winds coming from a SW direction is forecasted.  We are traveling SW, which is basically against prevailing winds, so we will be slowed by the headwind, but hopefully not to significantly.

  2. Had to put the heat on? Oh no! We've have high 90's weather for days! Your hotel looked as quaint on the inside as it did on the outside. Beautiful ride until that point. Loved the small waterfall. Pack some food with you today so you don't get caught without being able to stop, rest and eat! Safe riding to Pocatiere! xo

  3. Looks like a great day, with a well-deserved bottle of wine to finish it off! I must admit, I'm jealous that you had to turn the heat on. I was happy that my apartment cooled down to 79 degrees by this morning. But, it's never fun to ride in the rain so maybe we're even. Enjoy your ride today!
