Yates Center to Yates Center
I woke up this morning at little after 7am, read Di's post from last evening, looked over at Di still sleeping, and thought it might be a good idea to take a rest day. Di got up a short while later and after discussing the possibility of taking rest day for about two minutes, we agreed a rest day was in order. We had ridden six days in a row and travelled about 350 miles and that's a lot for us. Also, Brian and Michelle have kindly offered to drive to wherever we are when they arrive in St. Louis and, though we wanted our arrival in St. Louis to coincide with their arrival, it may end up that we take them up on their offer. Otherwise, we may arrive in St. Louis too tired to do anything but sleep!
We went into the center of town this morning and everything looked closed. This is normal in Kansas on a Sunday. We did what we normally do when looking for a place to eat: look for a collection of parked cars. On a Sunday morning, the cars will either be outside a restaurant or a church. We found a bunch of cars parked outside the Feedbunk, which is where we had our breakfast.
Eggs, bacon, pancakes, and biscuits with gravy. Yummy!

The Feedbunk is right across the town square. The town square looks like a city park, except it has the town hall in the middle of it.

We rode our bikes around the town square, but the center of most towns we've ridden through in Kansas always seem deserted, and as this was a Sunday, it was even more so here in Yates Center.
It is so deserted it looks like a movie set
We rode back to the motel, gathered our laundry, and performed our rest day ritual of heading to the laundromat.
The thought of clean clothes makes Di happy
We came back to the motel and lounged around our room for the remainder of the day. Around 7:30pm, Di went to the Subway next door and picked up a couple of turkey sandwiches. And that is the extent of our day; we were lazy bums all day and have absolutely no guilt about it!
Tomorrow we will ride to Iola, then Garnett, then Greely, and if we are feeling ambitious, on to Osawatomie, about 75 miles away. That distance makes me think ambition can be overrated.
Glad you guys decided to have a rest day. That's what Sundays are for! Hope you enjoyed it. Safe travels today. We are getting excited about seeing you guys later this week.
ReplyDeleteWas so happy to hear you took a rest day! Fresh start and clean clothes with no pressure thanks to Michelle and Brian's offer! What else could you ask for? Maybe wind in the right direction? Hope so! Enjoy! Love you guys! ❤️
