Pueblo to Pueblo
Jen and Ben left us last night and Di and I knew we would miss them, so we thought the best thing to do to avoid being sad was to be active. We decided we would be on the road early - definitely no later than 7:30am. So we made a plan to get up around 6am, finish breakfast by 6:30, pack, and then get on the road. It was a great plan. I knew our great plan was in big trouble when I awoke and saw it was 8:30am. I awakened Di and when I told her the time, she merely remarked, "Hmm, that's late." She then went back to sleep. Di finally got up and we went downstairs to the hotel restaurant for breakfast.
French toast and coffee and Di not yet fully awake
We finished breakfast and were back in our room before 10am and Di wanted to relax a bit and plan our rides for the next five days.
Di intensely planning our rides
The Fourth of July is this weekend and we were worried we might have difficulty getting reservations. Di figured out that Scott City was the place to give us our best chance of getting a place to stay, so she made reservations for Saturday and Sunday night (4th and the 5th, the 5th being a rest day). That meant we had 219 miles to travel over the next five days to get us to Scott City on July 4th. We only need four days to travel that number of miles, so you can guess what happened next. Yup, we decided to take a rest day in Pueblo. I have to admit the luxurious accommodations of the Marriott Hotel also had a lot to do with that decision. Why should we ride on only to have to take a rest day at a campground or mediocre motel when we can be in the lap of luxury here? So we stayed another day in Pueblo and celebrated that decision by going back to sleep.
We got up and out of the hotel later in the day to grab some ice coffee and sandwiches at the coffee shop around the corner. It was hot, with the temperatures in the mid-nineties, but a cool breeze made it comfortable enough for us to eat outside.
Drinking ice coffee outside can't be beat
This may be completely shocking to hear, but when we went back to the hotel we both took naps. When we awoke from our naps, we decided we needed to get some dinner. Leaving the hotel and going to a restaurant sounded like too much effort, so we went downstairs, ordered sandwiches, and brought them back to our room. We watched a movie we rented (Then Kingsman) while we ate our food and felt decadently lazy. That is a good feeling.
Tomorrow we ride 53 miles to Ordway and, sadly, we will lose all those feelings of decadence. Weirdly, I'm already looking forward to getting back on the bike.
Jen emailed these pictures to me, so I will add them as bonus shots.
Glad you rested up today and enjoyed the luxury stay at the Marriot! Safe travels tomorrow. xo
ReplyDeleteHey guys loving the blog and your trip. Keep pushing. Ed
ReplyDeleteWe had a feeling that Mariott was too good to pass up! Although, I am surprised to see you voluntarily spending more time in Pueblo. I like the new plan, and as I remember Scott City is a cool place, even though I did get a flat there. Have fun today!
ReplyDeleteOK, I'll bite. Steve you're cool.
