Day 5
Just waking up now. It was a great day of riding yesterday, but it was long and hilly. We took our time and stopped frequently; we rode about 55 miles. We left earlier from Fairfield (10:00a) and arrived into Yonkers at about 7:00p. Hopefully this explains the late post. All we wanted to do last night was shower, eat and sleep. To further explain how tired we were - the final 15 minutes of riding were the hardest. Our hotel is sitting at the top of a really, really tall mountain. No really a mountain! It took us a very, very long time to climb it, but we made it without dismounting the bikes :).
Our route was just beautiful though, mostly green roads all except when we rode through White Plains NY. We rode through parks and on official bike paths as well. The weather was perfect and the roads were safe. This is the only picture I took yesterday. Here is a shot of Steve sitting out drinking his coffee at a place we stopped for a late lunch.

Steve has lots more pictures. When he does his post you will see more.
We have a short ride today - about 38 miles to Maplewood, NJ. We will leave a little later today about 11:00a, which is good because we haven't created our route yet for the Garmin and still need to do this. Maplewood is where Maria and David live - friends of ours. They have two girls Emma and Becca. They are putting us up for the night! Can't wait to see them again - its been over a year since we visited with them last!
That is a long day! Congrats on making it to your 3rd state of the trip! I hope today is a little easier for you, but I'm sure there will be plenty of traffic to contend with. I look forward to pictures of the view from the GWB
ReplyDeleteI'm reading this two days after you left Maplewood, yet I got a little excited when you said you were coming to Maplewood...wierd.
