Fairfield, CT

Day 3

This is going to be a short post tonight for all you readers out there.  We rolled in very late due to trouble on the road - flat tires. We arrived at our hotel in Fairfield after 9:00p hungry and tired.  A quick shower and finding food took first position to this blog. We didn't want to worry anyone so this quick posting is meant to let you know that we are safe and sound!

Tomorrow is a day off from riding, so expect the day's details sometime ...

Di Here ...

We are well rested and relaxing now, but soon we will be exploring Fairfield looking for the closest bike shop.  What a day yesterday.   We were packed and ready to roll by 11:00a, Garmin included.  It was such a beautiful, sunny day.  Breakfast was just perfect!  Spinach quiche, new potato home fries, fresh fruit, homemade scones and gluten free toast.

About 10 miles into the ride we stopped to hydrate and boost our energy.   Here is Steve eating cheddar cheese that we brought.  Steve loved it!  I took a bite.  Well, it was, hmmm... how shall I say it, just alright.

We arrived into New Haven, our mid-way point (22 miles), at about 1:00p.  We were making great time so we decided to stop and eat lunch at the center's park.  There was a Big Band playing blues music and lots of green grass.

We were having such an awesome day until the dreadful happened.  A biker's nightmare, two flat tires ten miles apart.

First flat tire
1 hour later ...

Second flat same tire
Getting flat tires is a drag.  I am sure Jen and Ben can attest to this.  It slows you down and messes with the psyche.   In between flat one and flat two we tried just pumping the tire to see if we could make it - just 8 miles to go, but the tube wouldn't hold air so we had to repair.  It took some time.  It was close to 8:00p at this point.

After this final repair, we made it straight into Fairfield.  The reason why we made it in safely, and yes here it is ... the GARMIN navigated us right to the door steps to the Best Westin.   Thank you GARMIN.  We like the Garmin now!

Steve will post more on the awesome part of our day later ... we are off to the bike shop now!
