We drove to Burlington, VT today to start our bike-around-lake-champlain tour. Today being Friday, a notoriously bad day to be driving through the Boston area, we committed ourselves to leaving the house no later than 11 am. This would allow us to beat the traffic and arrive in Burlington in time for a leisurely dinner. Probably no one is surprised to learn our sound plan was undermined by our unsound actions when putting a travel plan into effect. I suppose I have a far too cavalier attitude towards time; I know it exists, but I prefer pretending it doesn't. Life can be more relaxing that way, but on the other hand, it can also punish you by catching you in traffic and turning a 5 hour car ride into a 7 hour slog. But I also prefer looking at the bright side of things, which in this case was a bag of wine biscuits made by Mom. The extra time in the car was needed to make sure I ate the whole bag. And I had the foresight to supplement my large ice coffee with a large thermos of reserve ice coffee. (And I'm still awake while Di is sleeping. Ah, the power of coffee!)
Ready to ride to Burlington (the easy way!) |
We arrived in Burlington a little after 8pm. After we checked in, parked the car in the long term lot and brought all our stuff in we decided it was too late to go for dinner. Its not a great idea to skip a meal on a bike trip, so Di and I will have to make it up by having a good breakfast. The restaurants here can get very busy, so Di and I have made a plan to get up very early to beat the crowds, eat a great breakfast, relax for a little bit, and then be on the road by 10am. Yep, good plan.
(I'm very wide awake right now. Arg, curse you, coffee!)
I definitely squealed at work when I got the email about the blog revival! And now, I let out a good snort thinking about you eating an entire bag of wine biscuits.
ReplyDeleteSafe riding today! Dodge those storm clouds! xo
ReplyDeleteGreat to see the beloved blog back up and running. Sounds like the first day was successful though I know how much that traffic sucks. You made it safe and sound. Looking forward to all your pictures and comments for the next two week. Can't wait to see all those breakfast photos, I love them. Is that weird or creepy?, nah. Safe travels today.
ReplyDeleteOh no I'm going to start craving pancakes again...I can feel my butt spreading just thinking about them...anyway safe trip, have fun!!!
ReplyDeleteWahoo Burlington! You didn't even go to the Windjammer for dinner? For old times sakes!? Remember we stayed at the Best Western and ate there before I moved in my freshman year. Seems like yesterday. Have a great trip! And by the way, you made a great decision to bring the blog back!
